For this hot version of a White Russian, bartender Isaac Shumway of San Francisco's Tosca Cafe ditches the vodka, mixing brandy and coffee liqueur with a hot coffee-cream mixture, and topping with cappuccino-like crown of frothed cream.

  • 1 oz. heavy cream
  • 34 oz. whole milk
  • 1 tsp. coffee syrup
  • 1 oz. coffee liqueur
  • 34 oz. brandy

Instructions

Step 1

Bring ¾ oz. heavy cream, whole milk, and coffee syrup to a simmer in a 1-qt. saucepan; remove from heat. Add coffee liqueur and brandy; pour into a mug. Add ¼ oz. cream to pan; whisk over medium until frothy. Pour over drink.
