
Created as a marketing vehicle in the 1940s by John Martin, owner of Smirnoff, and his friend Jack Morgan of Los Angeles’ Cock and Bull Tavern, this vodka-and–ginger beer libation is traditionally served in a copper mug.
Ingredients
- 4 oz. ginger beer
- 2 oz. vodka
- 1 lime wedge

Step 1
Stir ginger beer and vodka in a copper mule cup filled with crushed ice; squeeze lime wedge over top and drop into cup.
