Tree-shaped sugar cookies, adapted from an old standby, Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, epitomize a classic American Christmas.
Ingredients
- 2⁄3 cup honey
- 1⁄3 cup shortening
- 1⁄3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 3⁄4 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tsp. lemon extract
- 40 drops green food coloring
Instructions
Step 1
Using an electric mixer, combine honey, shortening, sugar, and egg. Slowly add flour, baking soda, salt, and lemon extract. Add food coloring. Refrigerate dough 30 minutes.
Step 2
Heat oven to 375°. Roll out into a 9” circle about ¼” thick. Cut into trees, re-rolling scraps to make more cookies; bake 8-10 minutes.
