Manhattan

Created in the 1870s at the Manhattan Club, on the island of the same name, this cocktail was first served at a banquet hosted by Lady Jennie Churchill, Sir Winston Churchill's mother.

Ingredients

  • 5 oz. bourbon
  • 2 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 6 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 maraschino cherries

Instructions

Step 1

Fill 2 stemmed cocktail glasses with crushed ice, then set aside to chill.

Step 2

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes, then add bourbon, vermouth, and bitters. Stir well.

Step 3

Pour ice out of glasses, then strain drink into chilled glasses. Garnish each with a maraschino cherry.
