This bright, citrusy cocktail features Zwack, a sweet-bitter Hungarian liqueur with a pronounced herbal note. The drink is named for Lake Balaton, a popular vacationing spot in Hungary. It was developed by mixologist Toby Maloney and served at the 2011 Manhattan Cocktail Classic in New York City.
Ingredients
- 1 1⁄2 oz. Zwack liqueur
- 3⁄4 oz. fresh lemon juice, from 1/2 lemon
- 1⁄2 oz. simple syrup
- 1⁄2 oz. dry Vermouth, like Dolin Blanc
- 1 tsp. orange marmalade
- 3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- Soda water
- Orange peel, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1
Combine all ingredients except soda water and orange peel in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; shake and strain into a rocks glass. Top with soda water and garnish with a twisted orange peel.
