This 1937 British cocktail, named for a train that ran between Manhattan and Chicago for much of the twentieth century, strikes an unexpected balance between velvety creme de cacao and refreshing gin, lemon juice, and Lillet.

- 1 1⁄2 oz. gin
- 3⁄4 oz. Lillet Blanc
- 1⁄2 oz. light crème de cacao
- 1⁄2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 lemon twist, to garnish

Combine gin, Lillet Blanc, crème de cacao, and juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with lemon twist.
